AQUACULTURE BIOFILTERS

Biofilters convert nitrogenous waste products from the fish to less toxic compounds. This significantly reduces the farm’s water demands.

We design & supply 5 different types of Aquaculture Biofilters:

MICROPORE BIOFILTER | NITRIFICATION

Utilizing polyethylene micropore disk media with ultra-high protected surface area. Highly effective and stable, compact, very low head, very economical media. Integrates CO₂ stripping.

MOVING BED BIOFILTER | NITRIFICATION

Utilizing a variety of plastic media with specific surface areas ranging from 500 to 2500 m²/m³ and agitated using air. Highly effective and stable, these filters can be operated over a wide range of hydraulic loadings. They are widely accepted as the most reliable and economical biofilters in RAS.

STATIC MEDIA BIOFILTER | NITRIFICATION

Specially designed plastic media held in a purpose-built vessel traps fine solids and performs as a nitrifying filter at the same time. These filters require periodic backwashing using air, or water or both.

TRICKLE FILTER BIOFILTER | NITRIFICATION

Passive filters with and without countercurrent air flow. Simple and effective, often combined with effective CO₂ stripping this kind of filter requires relatively large footprint and pumping head.

DENITRIFYING FILTERS | DENITRIFICATION

Denitrifying biofilters are anaerobic and heterotrophic bacteria reduce nitrate (NO₃) to gaseous nitrogen (N₂) using the oxygen obtained for metabolism. Automated carbon addition (in the form of methanol, acetic acid or molasses) is required to support bacterial growth and this is achieved with a dosing system controlled using an ORP sensor feedback loop.
